
Wales and Japan 2025
Freshwater organised a celebration of Welsh and Japanese culture at the Temple of Peace, Cardiff for the launch of ‘Wales and Japan 2025’ where key individuals, including First Minister of Wales, Eluned Morgan, and Japan’s ambassador to the UK, Hiroshi Suzuki, came together to celebrate the strong relationship between Wales and Japan. The event included addresses from both individuals, a panel discussion, music, networking, and food and drink themed around the fusion of cultures.
The First Minister performed the Japanese national anthem
in response to the Japanese Ambassador's viral rendition of the Welsh national anthem.

Brief
Freshwater was commissioned to design and produce an event celebrating the launch of Wales and Japan 2025, a year-long campaign and the fifth in a series of country-focused campaigns by the Welsh Government. With the aim of stimulating new economic and cultural partnerships between the two nations, it was crucial that the event showcased elements from both cultures.
Delivery
Freshwater provided end-to-end event management, ensuring every detail of the Wales and Japan 2025 celebration was expertly handled. This included designing the stage, set, and backdrop to reflect the fusion of Welsh and Japanese cultures, as well as specifying and sourcing all necessary lighting, sound, video and projection equipment. Our team oversaw onsite registration, ensuring a smooth experience for attendees and handled the complete venue setup to create a professional and welcoming environment.
To enhance accessibility and inclusivity, bilingual signage was designed and displayed throughout the event. Themed catering, blending Asian and Welsh flavours, added a memorable touch, reflecting the spirit of collaboration and cultural exchange that underpinned the event.
Results
The Wales and Japan event connected individuals and helped start new conversations, paving the way for a fresh chapter of mutual growth in key areas. Attendees were captivated by the incredible performances, insightful speeches and panel discussions, followed by delicious canapés that blended together Asian and Welsh ingredients.
