Swansea Council Autism Animation
To support families navigating the early stages of an autism journey, we created a bilingual animation that outlines the practical help available across school, home and community settings. Developed in close collaboration with professionals and parent representatives, the project aimed to provide clear, compassionate guidance for those seeking support and reassurance.
Brief
Swansea Council’s learning support team commissioned us to produce an informative and accessible animation to help parents and carers understand the support available for children and young people, who are either diagnosed with autism or waiting for an assessment. Designed to be bilingual and inclusive, the animation launched during World Autism Acceptance Week and aimed to guide families through the support offered at school, at home and in the wider community.
Delivery
The key challenge was delivering a clear, sensitive and reassuring message to families, who may be feeling uncertain or overwhelmed. We needed to make complex information easy to understand, while maintaining a warm and empathetic tone. Working with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the learning support team, Swansea Parent Carer Forum, ALNCos, the education team and National Autistic Society Swansea, we navigated the nuanced needs of the target audience to shape the script, animation style, voiceover and storyboard collaboratively.
Results
The final bilingual animation was extremely well received and praised for its clarity, warmth and inclusivity. It helped demystify the support landscape for families and signposted them to useful services, resources and organisations. By working closely with stakeholders throughout the process, we ensured that the final product was authentic, practical and resonated with its intended audience. Launched during a high-profile awareness week, the animation gave Swansea Council an engaging and accessible way to connect with parents and carers, providing them with reassurance and actionable guidance during a challenging time.
