Ongoing commitment to support future marketers through Career Confident programme

Earlier this year, as part of our commitment to supporting the next generation of marketers, we partnered with Cardiff University to offer internship placements to students as part of the university’s Career Confident programme.

We recently welcomed our second and final placement of 2023, Iestyn Rogers-Williams, for six weeks to support and nurture his marketing skills and provide him with hands-on industry experience.

Freshwater’s Director of HR and Operations, Sarah Whittle, said:

“We are so pleased to have a strong relationship with Cardiff University so that we can continue to work in partnership to support young graduates under the Career Confident Programme. We are privileged to offer young people the chance to explore, understand and experience the typical duties that are undertaken within a fast paced and dynamic integrated marketing agency. In addition to gaining new skills, they can discover their own strengths and motivations, along with meeting new people and building their network of contacts.

“Our team culture is all about nurturing others to develop, so it is thanks to my colleagues that our Career Confident placements feel part of the team from the day they arrive, and they leave with some newly acquired skills to add to their portfolio.”

Iestyn joined us for six weeks after completing a Business Management in Marketing degree.

Iestyn said: “After recently finishing university, I wanted to gain practical experience in a marketing role following the heavily theory-based learning within my course. I was also eager to make a start for myself by networking with relevant professionals in an industry that I am keen to work in.

“My experience on the Career Confidence programme has been insightful and fulfilling. I have learnt a lot, which has helped me realise how theory is applied to real life business practices.

“At Freshwater, being part of the Waterfront conference team, I have learnt lots of various marketing practices and got to grips with systems and software to implement them. Over the last six weeks, I have learnt how to effectively communicate both in-person and virtually whilst making sure I am meeting deadlines.

“A real highlight for me has been the chance to meet so many different people, who I have had the opportunity to learn from and build relationships with during my time at Freshwater. I am very grateful for the support I have received.”
