Freshwater partners with estate planning initiative Leighan’s List

Freshwater is proud to have partnered up with Leighan’s List, a project that seeks to provide employees with information on estate planning in the event of death.

Leighan’s List, which was launched on 18 October at the Superwoman Wales event in Cardiff, encourages and supports people to put their estates in order, and make it easier for those responsible for managing the estate following a death – such as handling finances, childcare, and other caring roles – while respecting the deceased’s wishes.

Freshwater is the first business to sign up to the project, which has been developed by Karen Phillips and partner John O’Shea, in memory of Karen’s younger sister, who died in 2021.

It will provide our staff with information they can use for estate planning, for themselves or their loved ones, as part of our wider Make it Matter wellbeing offer.

The project includes:

  • Explaining how to elect beneficiaries for your death in service payment.
  • A suggested list format and its contents, ensuring those managing your estate have easy access to necessary information.
  • The importance of having an up-to-date, signed, and witnessed will and how you can arrange this.

Sarah Whittle, HR and operations director at Freshwater, said: “We’re delighted to team up with Karen and John in support of Leighan’s List, becoming the first UK company to do so.

“As an ethical employer, driven by our purpose to Make it Matter, supporting our employees with their wellbeing has always been a priority for us. We understand how the death of a loved one can have a profound impact on the wellbeing of our staff, and their family and friends.

“We look forward to seeing how our partnership develops and monitoring its impact throughout 2024 and beyond.   We hope our collaboration with this worthwhile initiative inspires other organisations to sign-up.”
